Would you buy an iPhone for a 5 years old? Latest research shows that even though parents are wary of young children using technology that they are choosing to buy a mobile phone for them as a way of keeping them safe and in close contact. Young children are fast becoming fully fledged technology users. Here’s a TV interview I did for The Project (Network Ten in Australia) on this subject.

If you are planning on putting a mobile phone under the Christmas tree for your young child I suggest that set up 3 things before its wrapped up:

  1. Pre-set all parental controls on the mobile
  2. Pre-load the contacts
  3. Upload a couple of apps for your child- one that they would like and one you can play together. A phone for a young child will work best if its seen to be  a shared device. An app that you play together will help this.
