After major issues with adult content leaking into the YouTube Kids app, YouTube have made changes to their algorithms to try to stop the issue. We will start to see this in action this week. The kids app and website will get new categories for different ages. Preschool will be for children who are 4 years old and younger. “Younger” is for ages 5-7 and “Older” is for those ages 8 to 12. They are hoping the changes made will help to exclude content not suitable for each of these age categories. However its important to know that not all videos will be manually reviewed. The changes will help but no algorithm or random ‘human’ check, can replace a parent who themselves regularly checks that the videos their child is watching are suitable.
