Imagine starting your career as a teacher and you are subject to online bullying by your students? Online bullying of teachers has now taken an extreme turn with unauthorised images of teachers surfacing on social media more, as student hate attacks gain momentum across Australia.
The disturbing trend has seen educators secretly filmed in class during lessons and even doctored pornographic images of them posted online.
This is happening to experienced teachers and those at the very beginning of their career. I’ve had student teachers talk about this in discussions in our tutorials.
Online bullying and cyber safety is not what it used to be. It impacts everyone! Support and policy within schools should reflect the idea that we are all subject to online abuse and teachers should be equally supported in this just as we are committed to supporting students.
