In this segment I discussed how we’re all bamboozled by scams right now. we don’t know what is real or a scam anymore. We let unexpected calls go to voice mail and don’t answer anything that looks like its from a bank or other authority. Do you feel the same?
Last year we as Aussies were scammed out of a total of ½ billion dollars. That’s almost a 100% increase on the year before. And that’s the ones we know about.
The top 3 ways scammers reach us is phone, text and email. No matter which way they use there’s some things that are always the same in these scams:
– its unexpected, eg you get the phone call out of the blue.
– there’s always an urgency- you need to get this sorted right now.
– they use authority like to tax office, a job recruiter
– there is always a link or a phone number to contact them via.
People say to me “What if it really is the bank?. My response is, if banks have any sense of responsibility they will not be sending anyone a text message with a link to click. That would be completely irresponsible and my advice would be to change to a bank that uses more secure and informed ways of reaching you.
